I’m new to the world of Excalibur Dehydrators, but not the the world of dehydrating. See, for the last few years I’ve been finding creative ways to avoid dropping a huge chunk of change on a real dehydrator. I’ve borrowed my neighbor’s stacking no-name brand. I used the dashboard and/or the back of my SUV. I have even used the oven with the door open and a box fan. I’ve dried food using the power of the sun (aka: putting it on window screens on the porch). The point is, I’ve found workarounds, but none have been without flaws.

They said I couldn't do it. My property is too small. There are too many land restrictions living in town. I have trouble sewing in a straight line and I set off the smoke detector when I boil water. Well you know what? I'm figuring it out. I currently have a flock of ducks, quail, and chickens, as well as four Nigerian Dwarf goats. Between our livestock and our gardens (over half our 1/4 acre is edibles), we produce most of our food. I may not be the poster child of a domestic goddess, but I am definitely a homesteader. Find out how I overcome challenges. I believe that everyone can be a homesteader, no matter where they live. Visit me at The 104 Homestead
