When you live within the city limits you tend to have restrictions on the types of animals you can own, and chickens are no exception. But, just because you are allowed to keep chickens on your property does not mean that the neighbors will be understanding, especially if your hens are noisy or stinky due to improper coop care or if they constantly end up in the neighbors yards. School-steading is what I like to call my unique approach to homesteading. I am a homeschool mom to 4, one full grown (yay I did it!) and three of which still live at home (age 8, 12 & 13). We are using the Little House on the Prairie books as a guideline for starting our homestead. We learn a little everyday about growing our own food, living frugally, taking care of our animals and ourselves naturally and slowly building our 1/18th of an acre in the hot Nevada desert into a lush, green homestead.
