This buttermilk pie recipe is based off my husband’s grandmother’s original recipe. Buttermilk pie is a sweet custard pie with just a hint of tang. Even if you aren’t a fan of buttermilk, I think you’ll love the pie. I believe this is a Southern staple because growing up in Arizona, I’d never heard of it. But once I tried Grandmother Mary’s pie, it became one of my favorites. Now 20 years later can make it without looking at the recipe!
I usually make buttermilk pie for Thanksgiving; and my Arizona family requests it every year. I never have leftovers unless I make SEVERAL pies. This buttermilk pie recipe is amazingly simple; no need to be a seasoned chef here. I like it with just a dollop of whipped cream and a warm cup of coffee (yes I’ve eaten it for breakfast). Be careful, this make quickly become one of your comfort foods.
