In my last post, I introduced Dexter cattle as a possible breed for smaller homesteads. In this post, I’d like to talk about hardiness, what they can be used for, and what to look for when starting your herd. Dexter cattle are a hardy, docile, very versatile breed of cattle that are well-suited to smaller acreage landowners. Because of their size, they are easier to work with, and need less land and feed. They are a gentle, docile breed, have an easy time calving, have excellent maternal instincts, and are a joy to have around.
