One thing is for certain~ the homestead/sustainable way of life requires a certain variance in daily tasks. We don’t do the same thing every day, 365 days a year. When things are always changing, it can be difficult to keep track of just where we are headed. It’s like driving across country and being stuck in a traffic jam. The main goal at hand seems to be avoiding an accident rather than making our way to somewhere specific. So what can we do to make our way to our destination? For me (us,) staying focused is key. There are so many distractions in everyday life, it can be difficult. But the conscious effort to keep an eye on the big picture is a remarkable tool in obtaining that goal. We live about 25 miles from the closest grocery store in the beautiful mountains of Oregon. We strive to provided a good majority of our food for ourselves &/or find it locally while at the same time eating what we consider to be the healthiest diet and creating as little refuse/garbage as possible (down to about 6 bags per year.) It takes great balance to juggle all these balls at once, and at times we are more successful than others. C'mon along; we enjoy the company.
