Everybody needs a watermelon patch! The old fashioned varieties are definitely worth the effort. With hybridization, watermelons have become seedless and nearly rind-less. But our great grandparents had the right idea about melons with thick rinds for protection, watermelon pickles and lots of seeds for spitting.
- Growing Organic
My husband and I own 5 acres in New Harmony, Utah. Being self-reliant and wise stewards of our land has always been a priority. I have been growing a garden and raising berries, herbs, vegetables, and fruit organically for 10 years. Through extending the season and preserving food we produce much of our own food. I believe with a little wisdom and effort anyone can be successful in gardening. We have home schooled our children for the last 21 years and are now empty nesters. It was a treasured journey and now I'm enjoying watching my children begin this same adventure with our grandchildren. Along with gardening our we have chickens, ducks, and dairy goats. I enjoy many interests including sewing, quilting, cooking, reading, archery, target shooting, preparedness, and making my own lotions and soaps. Our family goal has been to love the Lord, liberty, and learning. Each day brings new challenges and adventures and great opportunities.
