Today is the second of a fun four-part series called “From Egg to Chick”. Today we’re going to talk about candling. Candling is an important part of hatching. Some people who use broodies to hatch will forgo candling. The mother hen tends to have a sense about the eggs and will kick out an egg she deems bad. Those that hatch in an incubator will typically candle on day 7, 14 and 18. But how DO you candle? Do you need special equipment? What exactly are you looking for in there? I’ve got answers to all of those questions and more.
