We write every month on the activities going on at HiBar Ranch here in the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee to give our readers a sense of the seasonality of farm life.
It is hard to believe it is the middle of August already. The thrill of fall is beginning to arrive. The pumpkins on the vines are turning orange, the deer are moving about with bucks velvet antlers in full show, the spring chicks are now producing their first eggs, the fruits in the orchards are harvested other than the apples and hickory and walnuts are ready to fall from the trees for fall harvest. Some trees have patches of red, turning early. Blowing days cause leaves to fall to the ground, merely a foreshadowing of things to come.
Over the last several weeks we have done so many harvest based activities. It is that time of year already.
Let me take you through our last several weeks of activities through pictures.
