You can make your own spicy bread and butter refrigerator pickles easily at home, without all the preservatives and dyes you find in store-bought pickles (have you ever read the back of one of those jars?!). The red pepper flakes are optional if you don’t like the little spicy kick. My first batch is already gone because everyone at work wanted their own jar!

My husband and I bought our piece of land at the end of 2011, moved on to it in April 2012 and we have never looked back. We have dogs and cats and our first farm animals were chickens and ducks. We recently added our first cows - Texas Longhorns, of course. We are learning to do as much for our ourselves as we can and raise as much of our own food as we can. That also means learning to preserve food. It's an amazing, rewarding lifestyle, a lot of hard work, and now that we are here, we could not live any other way.
