It’s flu season. Practically every time I turn around I’m getting word that somebody’s sick. This time of year, I go through a lot of Elderberry Syrup. It’s my Go-To remedy for avoiding the flu and getting over it faster, so I’m constantly making it and giving it away, and taking it, and feeding it to my kids. And, I credit our use of Elderberry Syrup for avoiding colds and the flu for the last three years. Yep, that’s right. None of us have had a cold or the flu for three years now. (Knock on wood.) And, it’s about the only herbal medicine I can pour down my family’s throats. ‘Cause it tastes so good!
Did you know that Elderberries have been used as medicine since ancient Roman times? And, that actual clinical trials have been conducted, proving it’s ability to combat the flu. In these tests, patients who were given an elderberry extract recovered from the flu several days sooner than the placebo group – AND – their symptoms were much less severe while they were sick. The elderberry stimulates antibody production and it’s a strong immune system stimulator. Scientists even think it might help prevent West Nile Virus. Pretty powerful stuff, the elderberry.
