Every winter, I plan my garden. It takes days and I love every minute of it. What to plant and how much of each vegetable to plant. It’s one of my favourite winter hobbies, as I sit in my comfy chair by the stove with a cup of tea in hand.
I don’t need to order much seed. That’s because I focus on growing heirloom varieties and save my own seeds. The seed businesses using GMO seeds don’t get much business from my house. But I always do find a few new heirloom varieties of veggies or flowers to try each year.
Food gardening has gotten a lot cheaper for me, since I can gather the seeds myself. I don’t have to pay those shipping costs, which always add up. When I do make a mail order, I try to find friends who want seeds as well so we can go in on an order together and save some money.
