With every first attempt at preserving your own food, the question seems to always linger in the background…did I do it right? Does this process actually work? We mused on this moment of doubt as we’ve attempted to teach ourselves all the ancient ways of putting up our food.

We're a husband (Andrew) and wife (Michelle). We both started out as teachers, and are in the process of turning ourselves into homesteaders. We're starting this grand experiment because both of our hearts yearn to live simple, sustainable, healthy lives, to care for our family and friends, and to honor our Father. We love to share what we learn, and we're willing to try any number of experiments as we start figuring this out. Though our starting point was a little house in the city with an itty-bity yard, a cat, our first baby, and a fledgling handmade goods business, we have started a journey that we hope ends in a family, an off-grid homestead, well-cared-for, happy animals, and a sustainably simple way of doing life. We FINALLY just moved to our 12 acres in the Ozarks this past June, and now the rubber has hit the road! We're newbies to this life, but w're excited to learn many of the skills that lots of people used to know and that our generation never learned. We're inviting you along for the ride.
