If you want to start seeds in winter, but don’t have space inside or in a greenhouse, than Winter Sowing is what you need to learn how to do! Winter sowing is using milk jugs (or other plastic containers) as mini-greenhouses, to start your seed in, in winter. This is a simple tutorial for one of the easiest ways to plant seed. Plant, set outdoors, and then forget about it until spring when its time to transplant!

I am a homesteader on 2 1/2 acres in the Pacific NW. It all started when I read Animal Vegetable Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver almost 10 yrs ago. We already had a few chickens, but then we got more. Then my girls joined 4-H and we got more chickens. Than we substantially enlarged our vegetable garden and planted more fruit bearing plants. Then we got goats. And more chickens. And ducks. All with the goal to live a more self sustaining lifestyle. Wanting to know where our food came from, what was in it, and how little it traveled from our homestead to our belly's. And all from the efforts of our own hands. It is such a satisfying, fulfilling lifestyle and I am so grateful to be able to live this way. Come learn how to Grow, Harvest and Preserve with me on the homestead!
